Happy New Year to you all! Bookings are already looking good for the next few months, and I have a few new magic routines planned for this year including Crazy Pete's Stinky Socks, The Magic Thief and a comedy watch vanish for older children. Super!
Very little actual news so far this year, everything is ticking along just nicely, but keep watching this space as I'm sure there will be proper announcements soon.
It's October already! Time to get out the fake fangs for Halloween, and this Halloween I'm performing magic shows all day long at the Borde Hill Gardens. Also, the day before, the 30th October, you can see me at the Fox Eating and Drinking House in West Hoathly, Sussex, as I'll be hosting a family Halloween party there. Spooktastic!
I have a new educational magic show for schools which is my Food for Thought show, explaining healthy eating to children and highlighting what we should be eating and drinking. Loads of fun, and tons of food magic too of course.
After wearing my very recognisable red jacket for ten years I'm now going blue. I originally went red as it's the colour of a circus ringmaster's jacket or tailcoat, and I've been red for so long the change of colour is definitely going to take some getting used to. Saying this, I do very much now like the look of blue. Still adorning the oversized yellow buttons of course that I'm known for of course!
I am at the Tandridge Leisure Centre in Oxted if you would like to see me this summer, and it's a show open to everyone. I'm entertaining with a one hour magic show at 3pm on Thursday 1st August. Tickets are £6, and you can book by calling the Tandridge Leisure Centre on 01883 716 717. I'll see you there then!
I'm very pleased with my new promotional showreel which you can now view on this website. It took me about a month to put it all together, and I must have re-edited it about six times, but I'm now happy with it and I think it's the best I've ever had.
I have lots of fun events to look forward to already this summer, mostly family events, a couple of festivals and a few military bases as well. Tons of children's parties too of course, of which I'm guessing quite a few will be outside. I'd better remember to go and buy some sun cream!
Still some availability for the next few months so don't forget to get in touch is you'd like some magic at your event.
Last but not least I'm being commissioned to write a full puppet show show for a puppet booth. More news on this as it comes in.

Hi! I'm Andy Hiccup. I'm an acclaimed children's entertainer and magician for children's birthday parties and other family events. I'd love to come and entertain for you whatever the occasion, and I cover Surrey, Sussex, South London and Kent.
I'm perfect for children's parties and ideal for family occasions, happy to perform magic, puppets and professional silliness anywhere that needs it. Both children and adults alike adore my amazing antics and I'm a genuinely jolly nice chap too.
I'm fun, friendly, full of smiles and boundless energy and I will bring excitement and joy to your event in bucketloads.
ESSENTIALS: I am enhanced DBS checked (though children’s entertainers no longer have to be for children’s parties or school magic shows as the laws have changed), fully insured and all my equipment is PAT tested. In short, all necessary boxes are ticked. I am also an Equity registered children’s entertainer.
LOCATIONS: I am the ideal choice for childrens entertainers in Surrey. childrens entertainers in Sussex and also in South London and West Kent too. I cover much of the South-East of England.
What I can do for you
Children’s birthday parties and other family events: My party entertainment includes my super hilarious magic show, balloon modelling, party games, dancing, crazy close-up magic and cheeky puppets. I usually entertain children from 4 - 11 years, though older children and grown-ups enjoy my amazing magic too. Find out more here.
Just magic shows: If you are interested just in having magic shows these can be repeated throughout the day if required. I have performed magic shows in schools, nurseries, theatres, village halls, shopping centres, holiday resorts, golf and football clubs, festivals, pubs, libraries, company parties, kids clubs and for housing associations. I have even performed magic shows in prisons, dental surgeries and even once did a children’s magic show in a church graveyard!
A little bit about me
I have been entertaining children and their families for over twenty years and I love it! I have performed shows in theme parks across the UK and Europe, I have performed and taught magic at the Ministry of Fun and I was for many years one of Walt Disney Special Events most requested entertainers. I have been magic advisor for theatre productions, for the BBC and for professional circus shows. I have performed my magic show at many fine establishments including The Barbican, The Foreign Office Whitehall, Royal Ascot, London Zoo ZSL, 67 Pall Mall, The Hurlingham Club and 10 Downing Street.
However, what I really love best in the world is to entertain at children's parties and to perform magic shows in schools and for family events. My most important clients are the mums and dads of the world, and the children whose parties I entertain at. Most definitely!
I entertain with a mighty mix of the following, depending on the duration of the event and what you would most like:
A super fun magic show: Usually 45 minutes for children’s parties or a full hour for schools and clubs. My magic shows are funny, fast-paced and crammed full of impressive innovative magic that will wow and entertain the children from start to finish. Loads of laugh-out-loud comedy. I get helpers up at every opportunity to help (though I never force them to if they are shy) and the whole audience is invited to help me in a variety of fun creative ways. I have different magic shows for all kinds of audiences and ages.
A puppet show: The “performing animals” I entertain with are my magic mice, Stinky Bird (a cheeky comic muppet-style puppet) and Frostie the Fox (cuddly and furry – he looks real!). This is not a "cutesy" puppet show, but fun, fast-paced and chock-full of slapstick.
Balloon modelling: I can make most of the most asked-for animals (everything from dogs to monkeys to crocodiles), plus dinosaurs, flowers, balloon people and balloon hats as well. Balloon modelling is always very popular.
Exciting party games: Musical games, quest games, pretending games, dancing / disco games and party limbo.
For all events the most important thing is that all the children have an incredible amount of fun, everyone is thoroughly entertained and, if it’s a birthday party, that the birthday child gets to feel very special on their important day.
Here's a fun little video of Andy Hiccup showing off some of the splendid magic he does in his magic shows and in his children's birthday parties
As well as entertaining in my lovely colourful Andy Hiccup magician's outfit, I can also tailor my shows and parties in a themed way if you wish. These include pirate parties, superhero parties, Super Mario parties, wizard school / Harry Potter style parties, circus / Greatest Showman parties, Willy Wonka / Charlie and the Chocolate Factory style parties, Alice in Wonderland parties, safari jungle parties, Halloween parties, as well as Christmas party entertainment too of course.
(update as of 24/3/20) In the light of current events I am currently advising people that have booked a party happening in March, April and May to postpone until such a time as we are properly allowed to have parties again.
As the government lockdown and common sense means that children's parties are not now allowed to happen, all children's entertainers are offering the chance to reschedule their children’s party to a time when the virus is more contained and having birthday parties is the norm once more. The deposit you have already paid is transferred to the party on the new date.
You can take as long as you want to reschedule to a new date, there’s no rush. Please get in touch again once the virus situation is a little clearer and calmer.
Some parents are considering changing to parties at home with far fewer children, or just immediate family members, where they don’t have to rebook a hall and they don't have to invite the whole class. This may be a better option for the nearer future and which means the party can still go ahead albeit without mass numbers.
It doesn’t even have to be a birthday party that the deposit is transferable to, it can be for any special occasion, or even a party just to break the monotony of schools being closed if we’re allowed to properly socially interact once more.
I can reschedule to any new available date except the first two weeks in July and the first three weeks in December which are already taken. When you reschedule, you can reschedule to either a weekday or a weekend day. If you reschedule to a weekday Monday – Friday I’m currently doing some super price deals which you can take advantage of:
Weekdays Monday – Friday (discounts valid until the end of June, may be extended after that too): Prices are now £175 for two hours, £145 for an hour and a half, or just £110 for an hour. Plus a little travel (usually no more than £10) if you are over 25 miles from me.
Thanks for reading and I wish you all the best. Now back to the normal website ...
